Kontact Summary View - News

Hey guys,

I just installed Kubuntu Dapper 64 bit on my comp, and was configuring Kontact.

Usually on my Fedora and Suse Box, in the Summary View there is an area which shows my Newsfeeds,

When i click "Settings" -> "Configure Summary View" in Fedora and Suse, I can select which plugins i want to have visible on the summary page and one of the plugins is the 'Newsticker'.

I don't have that option Available on Kubuntu...

So far i've apt-get install'ed the following:

knews
knewsticker
knode
kdepim
kdepim-kfile-plugins
kdepim-dev
libkdepim1-dev
kdepim-doc
kdepim-doc-html

And I still got no results.

try dcoprss, I think that is the one you need

Actually, I think KNode is enough. However, you have to enable it in Kontact's Components, not just in Summary View. Go to Settings > Configure Contact, then near the bottom there's a "Select Components" button.

I do with that Summary View would get an Akregator plugin, though. So that I won't have to setup feeds/news twice.

The summary newsfeed view is (oddly) separate from akregator, and I do think that I needed dcoprss package for the summary view to appear. I may be wrong though, I don't have accss to a box to test this just yet. It also may be a package called librss, which is in Universe

Darn, I forgot to post this.
Claydoh was right. To get news feeds in Summary View, you need knewsticker and librss installed.

KNode is for newgroups...

Thanks guys, I got it working!!!

What I did:

I needed to 'apt-get' the following:

- knewsticker
- librss1


Then I opened up Kontact and did the following:

1. Clicked the Summary Icon on the left.
2. On the Menu Bar, clicked "Settings->Configure Kontact"
3. In the new window that opened, clicked "Select Components"
4. In the newer window that opened, Checkmarked "NewsTicker"
5. Clicked "OK", then clicked "OK" again.
6. On the Menu Bar, clicked "Settings->Configure Summary View"
7. On the left-hand side of the new window, clicked "Components"
8. Now on the right-hand side, I checkmarked "NewsTicker"
9. Clicked "OK"

And thats it!!!
