As a developer I like KDE for the way it's engineered. As a user, I like the Gnome look'n'feel. What I like most about Gnome is the way the taskbar looks with a outline around the taskname. Is there a way to achieve the same in KDE?

Actually, you can try if this is "almost" what you want:
Right-click on the Panel > Configure Panel > Taskbar options > set Appearance to "Classic".
I do think that the GNOME panel taskbar (just the taskbar) looks a bit nice. One thing I hate about it, though, is that it fills up the whole taskbar space, even if there's only two applications open. Or sometimes it doesn't. It's inconsistent.
