kmail imap sent folder lost - due to pc crash?

Hi. I have lost hundreds of sent emails from the sent folder of kmail. I use IMAP. Could this be a result of my pc crashing during the synchronisation between the mail server and my local pc? If so, how can I take measures to stop this happening again, and is there any way to recover these files?

I have no idea how to prevent your PC from crashing, but I suspect that you haven't lost your data yet, you just can't find it. Is there anything in your /lost+found/ directory? If so, that may be your missing messages. You can probably look at the contents of any files in /lost+found with "od" and (if you're lucky) figure out what they are. There may even be a way to do that in the GUI, but I never learned it.

Thank you for your reply. There is nothing in my lost and found. I am still trying to contact the imap mail provider to find out if I can have my sent folder restored.
