Firefox and Thunderbird crash

I have looked for an answer to this, but have yet to even find a mention of someone else having the problem.
When I use FF or TB, and I try to browse for a file on the computer, I get the box that pops up the file browers, but most of it is black, and it causes the program to crash. I have tried altering the GTK theme, but when I go into the settings, that crashes too.
I will post a screen shot once I change into Opera or Konqueror.

I seem to have gotten part of the problem fixed. I was using Bahgira as my KDE style, and once I changed from that to Plastik, I was able to upload and download using FF or TB without a problem. I still can't get into the GTK settings at all - System Settings just crashes.
