Xgl ?

Has anybody installed Xgl with the Synaptic package manager? I believe the Xgl package is available and I seem to have installed it but I don't know how to run it. Before I tried installing Xgl using synaptic I read this how to link, http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=127090
but I thought I would give synaptic a try first. Since I don't if I completely installed Xgl can someone make suggestions as to what my next step is? Any help is appreciated.

Frankly, there's no way in hades that I'm going to go prowling through an 82 page thread with over 800 posts. That's precissely why I almost never go over to the Ubuntu Forums. Fortunately, however, there is an XGL HowTo on the official Ubuntu Community Help site. Try that.
