Mencoder script - encode from rm to avi

Hi,
Does someone have a script that they use to convert say from .RM to .AVI ?  I have given up on a GUI front end to mencoder for the time being.  I have read many google topics on mencoder, options,...and I just want the best picture quality.  I did track down a nice script that converts .MPG to .AVI, but was hoping someone has done a .RM to .AVI.

Oh, I have tried writing my own scripts and several appeared to run fine, triple the original file size and when they played back, the position bar at the bottom jumps all around like I do when I'm holding a hot potato.  OUCH.

Try browsing www.softpedia.net. They have a lot of linux video apps. Maybe someone wrote some sort of front-end app.
