    Re: codecs

Either you can use an automatic utility - e.g. Automatix

    http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=223087

Or go to "Useful tips for Newbies" at the top of the Help the new guy forum, scroll down and you will be shown how to install the individual codecs you want

      Re: codecs

You can install codecs on Kubuntu in a number of ways. Take your pic:

      1. The direct way: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RestrictedFormats
Just look for the sections for Kubuntu Dapper. Specifically, you'll be wanting to install libxine-extracodecs and w32codecs

      2. Use Automatix for Kubuntu: http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=203294
It's basically a script/program that makes installing these things easier.

      3. Use EasyUbuntu: http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=190535
It's also a script/program that makes things easier for new people.

I personally don't have experience with #2 and #3, so I can't give any comment. #1 might be a bit longer or more difficult, but it teaches you a few stuff along the way as well.

          Re: codecs

Gezzer: I don't think it's a good idea to mix repositories from other distros with Ubuntu's own repositories, unless those repositories are specifically compatible with Ubuntu (like the PLF repos). Besides, we also have our own multimedia codecs, customized for Ubuntu/Kubuntu.

                  Re: codecs

If you are running Dapper Drake, all your answers for media codecs should be here:

                  https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Re...515ba7630fcc59

                  Read it carefully.
