desktop is locked

hello
i just installed kubuntu and trying to put icons on my desktop but i cant i dont know why ,i cant right click on it and when i change the wallpaper it doesnt change

any help?

Maybe you should check rights available in your home folder.
sudo chown -R <login> /home/<login>
sudo chmod -R u+w /home/<login>

logout and login, maybe it will help. If not, try to upgrade to kde 3.5.4 like said on the site kubuntu.org
