Unable open adept installer package

Hi I was trying to enabable my repository files so I
can update my system at adept but after enableling universe and
multivers my adept package manager could not open again. It gave me
"The APT Database could not be opened! This may be caused by incorrect
APT configuration or some similar problem. I have tried running
apt-setup and apt-get update but to no avail. what do I do since I
want to upgrade my system.
I tried this too and it did not work

post your source list.....
sounds like you improperly entered a repository to me.....

sudo kate /etc/apt/sources.list

i am not sure exactly what to do because i am pretty much a noob as well but what i would do it make a new source list and paste it in there.....

No worries. It's a simple error in the sources.list.

@someguyouknow: it's not that bad. The installer on the Desktop CD tries to reach the online repositories during the installation. If it can't reach them for some reason (like you weren't connected to the interned when you were installing Kubuntu) it will just comment out/disable your repositories.

@cravis: let me walk you through the process.

1. In Konqueror, go to /etc/apt/ and right-click on sources.list, select Actions > Edit as Root.

2. Delete the first line, the one with only the word "cd", and the blank lines that follow that. Your first line should be the first "Line commented out by installer...." line

3. Change these two lines

deb http://au.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ dapper universe
deb-src http://au.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ dapper multiverse

to this

deb http://au.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ dapper universe multiverse
#deb-src http://au.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ dapper universe multiverse

Explanation: Disable the deb-src repository, because you probably won't need to download source code. Put the "multiverse" together with "universe" because you need them both, as binaries (installable packages).

4. Comment out (remove the starting "#") the following lines:

# deb http://au.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ dapper main restricted

# deb http://au.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ dapper-updates main restricted

# deb http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu dapper-security main

# deb http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu dapper-security universe

and comment (put back the starting "#") this line:

deb-src http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu dapper-security main

Explanation: You are basically enabling the important repositories that you will need.

5. Lastly, change this

deb http://au.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ dapper-updates main restricted

to this:

deb http://au.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ dapper-updates main restricted universe multiverse

and this

deb http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu dapper-security main

to this:

deb http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu dapper-security main restricted

Explanation: You have added the universe and multiverse components to dapper-updates, and the restricted component for dapper-security.

6. Save it all up. Then launch Konsole, and type in this command

sudo apt-get update

If everything went well, you will now have a working sources.list and Adept will open up again.

Remember, when you are enabling/disabling repositories manually (editing the sources.list file)
deb - these point to the repositories where binaries, installable/executable packages, are stored. This is what you really need
deb-src - points to the repositories where the source code (programmers' code/text) of the binaries are stored. You probably won't need this so just disable them.

Thanks buddy it worked and I can now open my adept manager. But after entering sudo apt-get updates this is what it gave me and cannot still get any updates. What do i do since I want to play music and watch my movies.

One more thing what is the diff between the

http://xx.archive.ubuntu.com dapper-updates.
