Adept Manager - Whats going on

I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong.
I used Adept to install Mplayer and all I ended up with is kmplayer-base and kmplayer-plugins.
For the install I opened Adept and in the search bar typed, mplayer, when it came up I selected all the items I wanted and clicked fetch updates but all that was installed is the above. Now when I try to install mplayer all that comes up is whats already there.
Could someone please help with this.

    Trying to install w32codecs.
    wget -c http://www.debian-multimedia.org/poo...1-0.0_i386.deb
I've tried using this several times over the last week and it just times out continually, it doesn't matter how long I leave it for it just keeps timing out over and over.
Are there any Australian repos I can add to Apt to try and overcome these issues.

Re: Adept Manager - Whats going on

    G'day, aussie.ian, welcome to Kubuntu

I had a look at Adept and put kmplayer in the search line. It came up with 4 packages to install - Kmplayer, Kmplayer-base, Kmplayer-doc and Kmplayer-konq-plugins. I have all of these installed and km player works perfectly.

To install the necessary codecs to play mp3's etc, have a look at this site :-

    https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RestrictedFormats

It explains how to obtain them in plain language that even us Aussies can understand. You might like to look at this site as well :-

The site has been put together by aysiu, one of the many very helpful people on these forums. You will find a lot of information to get you going with Kubuntu. Enjoy.

    Cheers

When I first put mplayer into Adept the same thing came up but it only installed the 2 mentioned. Now when I put it in they are the only 2 that come up.

That's where I got the link I was trying to use, it just times out constantly. I left it for 2 hours and it timed out 36 times (I counted them back)

I have all available repos enabled I think, I just can't install or update anything.

When I open Adept and click "fetch updates", it takes 10 to 15 mins and just comes back with "no updates available". When I select any of the available tags and drop[ them in they all say "installed" - "no change.

I just ran "apt-get update" and the following was returned.
(this is only part of the readout as it was quite long)

      bzip2: Inappropriate ioctl for device
Input file = (stdin), output file = (stdout)

It is possible that the compressed file(s) have become corrupted.
You can use the -tvv option to test integrity of such files.

You can use the `bzip2recover' program to attempt to recover
data from undamaged sections of corrupted files.

W: You may want to run apt-get update to correct these problems
E: Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead.

There is something wrong here somewhere, I just don't know what it is or where to look.
Sorry for the length of this post but I wanted to include as much info as possible.

Re: Adept Manager - Whats going on

Perhaps try taking the au part out of the repositories and just have

        deb http://archive/ubuntu etcetc.

Maybe there is a problem with the Australian mirrors. I've never used them, myself, have always had a great run with the standard ones. Don't forget to update and upgrade when you've finished.

For your first problem, try kmplayer, not mplayer if you are using KDE.

        Cheers

Already tried that and all servers just timed out. Will try again and later tonight and see if time of day has anything to do with it.
(local phone exchange is very busy, small and about 20k from home)

I have tried both, it doesn't seem to make a difference. (might be related to same as above - not connecting to servers)
