    libglib2.0-0 vs libglib1.2

I tried to install a package with libglib1.2 listed as a dependency. Dapper already has libglib2.0-0 installed, but the package installer fails, saying that it needs libglib1.2.

    Why is it?
Isn't libglib2.0-0 a newer version than libglib1.2, or does versioning work different in Linux?
Or is this simply a case where a certain package is not compatible with a newer version of a dependancy?

It may be that the package was compiled with libglib1.2 and the maintainer set that as a dependency since she doesn't know FOR SURE that it will work with libglib2.0. However, fortunately for you, libglib1.2 is still available as an Ubuntu package. Personally, I have both installed, probably as a result of a situation like the one that you're facing.
