    desktop sharing and vncserver

I have enabled desktop sharing and vncserver on my kubuntu computer, however when I vnc to either the vncserver or desktop sharing I am getting over type, for instance if I want a letter "r" i am commonly getting something more like this: "rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr" this happens with all the keys and isn't just related to the letter "r", I have also tried this from multiple computers with the same results.

    any help would be appreciated..

    and thankyou in advance.

I have the same exact problem; I'm forced to type excruciatingly slowly, so any help on this would be great.

bird2605, what VNC server are you using in Kubuntu? Are you just using Krfb or have you tried other versions? I'm using Krfb myself, and I've tried a couple of different viewers hoping that would solve the problem, to no avail.

The only little tidbit I've been able to find is that it might have something to do with ati video drivers. Do you have an ati card as well?

I started of with krfb just for the ease of configuring it, then after a while i used apt-get install vnc4server, and this is exactly the same, even across a local network it is quite painful.

Same here; excrutiating even across a 100Mb network, and the typing problem that makes remote desktop under Kubuntu almost entirely useless.

Do you have an ATi video card?

I was really, really hoping someone would have a solution or at least an explanation for this problem, because it's really a deal breaker. I may have to abandon Kubuntu altogether if I can't get this working properly.

          FYI:

I found that using x11vnc rather than Krfb eliminates this problem and GREATLY improves overall performance on low-end systems like my PIII 450.

          Instructions:

          1. Remove Krfb and install x11vnc using Adept

          2. Create an x11vnc password file. (if you don't know how, just go into the Konsole, type "x11vnc", and it will tell you)

          3. Configure x11vnc to run as a service, as explained here: http://www.karlrunge.com/x11vnc/#faq-service under "Q-48: How can I run x11vnc as a "service" that is always available?"

I shouldn't, it seems more of a KDE 3.5.? krfb problem, my 'other' distros are having trouble with it too.
X11vnc works ok, but for those with the gnome deps, vino works even better.

It never occurred to me that vino might work under KDE.

Is there anything odd that I might have to do to get it running under kubuntu?

              What repository(ies?) should I add?

              Thanks for the tip.
