s/mime - digital certificaes on Kmail

There has been some discussion on digital certificates and it seems that for whatever reason this release does (did?) not support them. I don't know if this is a dapper thing (the way they implemented kde) or a mainstream kde issue.

PGP works fine though, and whilst I use that where I can not many of my business contacts have gone that way or intend to do so. They all want s/mime . So my question is has anybody managed to get digital cerificates working on Kubuntu Dapper in Kmail. I know it can be done in Thunderbird but I need Kmail because of its tie in with Kontact.

It all works ok on Ubuntu but that's Gnome and I really want kde .

    Many thanks
    Colin

Hmm...This is just a guess (since I haven't tried it), but perhaps you can try it while waiting for better answers.

There's a 'gpgsm' package in universe:
GNU privacy guard - S/MIME version
GnuPG is GNU's tool for secure communication and data storage.
It can be used to encrypt data and to create digital signatures.
It includes an advanced key management facility and is compliant
with the proposed OpenPGP Internet standard as described in RFC2440.

This package contains the gpgsm program. gpgsm is a tool to provide
digital encryption and signing services on X.509 certificates and the
CMS protocol. gpgsm includes complete certificate management.

Thanks for that but I have "gpgsm" installed.

Grateful for the thought - all help is needed and appreciated
