Re: Problem with installing external programs

The Links where very good and i have learned anything.
But now there is another question:
With Adept i see all programs installed but no program which i can install or which is available to install.
In the docu there is an application named alien to install rpm-packages.
But in Adept i see no alien, i see no mozilla seamonkey and so on...
How can i install programs they are not available. I can download seamonkey but it will not start because it is compiled for linux, not for Kubuntu and this seemed not to be the same!

        What is with Firefox?
Firefox is installed (look Adept) but there is no icon to start Firefox and there is no Script to start Firefox in the directory of Firefox.
        Regards...

Check your repository settings if you don't see alien in the adept.

About seamonkey: I don't think that you can find seamonkey in the repos. So adept don't see it.

          Installing seamonkey:

          Download seamonkey-1.0.2.en-US.linux-i686.installer.tar.gz from
          http://www.mozilla.org/projects/seamonkey/.

In the konqueror click seamonkey....gz and paint /seamonkey-installer, CTRL-c. Move to available directory (i just use temp). CTRL-v. Goto /seamonkey-installer -directory. Click seamonkey-installer - file (not seamonkey-installer-bin). Seamonkey installer starts. This works if you put seamonkey in the /home/yourname/something...

I want to install SeaMonkey in /opt but i have no permissions to do this.
          Permission to do this:

In the konqueror click seamonkey....gz and paint /seamonkey-installer, CTRL-c. Move to available directory (i just use temp). CTRL-v. Goto /seamonkey-installer -directory. Press f4 - konsole pops up. Type: sudo /home/yourname/someplace/seamonkey-installer/seamonkey-installer. Give password. Seamonkey installer starts.

          Adding icon:

          Click K > right click Internet > ...

Re: Problem with installing external programs

            Thanks for help.
The first problem was the link of repositories. I installed Kubunutu without a connection to internet. So all links where disabled and i couldn't find any software.
Now i enabled the links and i found Mozilla Suite 1.7.12 and this is kompatible with Seamonkey.
I want to install for all users not for one user only but your tipp was good an has functioned too.
            So long...
