    Amarok troubles

So, I finally had Amarok working with my mp3s yesterday and everything was fine, and then I upgraded to a newer version (1.4.1).
I already went through all of the information at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RestrictedFormats to no avail. That guide was helpful in getting it up and running yesterday, but since I upgraded Amarok and lost functionality I have run through it again. I tried google and tried previous posts and nothing seems to work.

Some things to note about what I'm running:
    -KDE version 3.5.2.
    -Dell SBLive! sound card
-I have installed the libxine-extracodecs package
-I have tried using Xine with both OSS and ALSA and neither work
-Using XMMS I get playback, but for some reason every once in a while when I start XMMS it will no longer play sound, and then I will mess with the output plugin changing it from OSS to ALSA and vice versa and sound will suddenly pick up again.

I admit I am a bit of a newbie but I have had it working in the last few days, which is what is so frustrating. I am also having trouble in Amarok with the Musicbrainz tagger, but I'll save that for another post :P

    Thanks in advance.

    Re: Amarok troubles

    1) open alsamixer to make sure nothing is muted

    2) try installing kde 3.5.3: http://kubuntu.org/announcements/kde-353.php

      Re: Amarok troubles

I tried what you said.  I'm still in the process of upgrading KDE.  We'll see what happens.  I appreciate your advice.

EDIT: Still no luck whatsoever. Updated KDE, etc. Let me know if you have any other ideas. Also, do you know if there's a command to check what version of KDE you're running?
