kmplayer is much better than kaffeine- and it can easily switch between the mplayer and xine engines.
kaffeine has an embedded mplayer engine (on top of the external xine one), but it is working like crap. I have stopped using it since one year ago, and I couldn't be happier.

I have always used KMPlayer, I also think its better than Kaffeine.
