Amarok cant play FLAC files

    Amarok cant play FLAC files

    I cant get amarok to play flac files. They work fine in Kaffine.

    Here's the error:

    Here's my xine version according to Amarok:

    Here's my xine version according to terminal

    libxine-main1 is "Version: 1.1.1+ubuntu2-7.2".

    Can anybody help me?

    Edit: My screenshots are crystal clear, for some reason these forums dont render them correctly. If you're using firefox right-click on them and hit "view image".

    I'm guessing that you are using Amarok 1.4.1, the latest update?
    If so, try downgrading to Amarok 1.4.0 (previous version). I'm not 100% sure on how to do that, though.
    AFAIK, FLAC support in Amarok 1.4.1 is broken because of some issues with the xine version in Ubuntu. It's been a few weeks now since the bug was reported in the Malone bug tracker. I'm surprised it hasn't been fixed yet.

      Yeah, the first thing I did when I installed kubuntu was to do an "apt-get upgrade". So it's the lastest Amarok. Why the hell would they release an audio player and call it stable if it cant even play FLAC files?? That's very very careless! 3/4 of my music is in FLAC, you'd think that the were trying to discourage us from using free formats or something! >

      So how would I go about downgrading? Uninstall amarok then re-install it? What repos would still have the 1.4.0 version?

        Well, one possible reason is that the problem lies with xine, and not with Amarok. If it were so, then the burden of fixing this problem would lie with the xine camp, or at least the maintainer of libxine/xine-lib in Ubuntu. However, I'm not completely aware of all the facts, so please don't take my word about the problem as absolute truth. (I was too lazy/busy to research in depth).

        I think the 1.4.0 repositories are still up: http://kubuntu.org/announcements/amarok-1.4.php

        I'm just not sure how to properly downgrade a package. I think Synaptic has a feature for "forcing" a certain version, but AFAIK, there's none in Adept. I guess you'll have to do it the long way and remove/reinstall it...

          Ha! only 3/4 of you music is FLAC. All of mine is FLAC - due to having done a bit of research a while ago and bought Rio Karma before they discontinued production - one of the few personal digital players that support FLAC.

          For the moment, I've been using Juk as it's quite similar to Amarok - which is also my prefered player.

          I guess if I wait long enough it will be fixed/sorted. Unfortunately I certainly don't know enough to do that myself.

            I can play FLAC, ogg, musepack, AAC, Mp3, shorten, APE and wavpack and more on my iPod! so :-P

              In Synaptic (not adept, to download synaptic, simply go to a konsole and type sudo apt-get install synaptic), right click amarok the package and click downgrade or something like that. It might also be in properties, I'm not too sure, but I know it's there.

                Thanks Nirvana. Do you think if I just leave it for a few days then do an "apt-get upgrade" it'll be fixed. Or does this bug not have a high priority?

                  Anybody got any info on when this might get fixed? (I cant downgrade because I need to be able to play my aac files.)
