I run Open Office for word processing and as I write about early medieval history and archaeology, I need runic fonts (Runes are an early alphabet used by Germanic people in the medieval period). I have downloaded and installed Dan Smith's Historical Rune Fonts from http://www.acondia.com/fonts/runes/. This works in SuSE which I have been using for some time. I would like to switch to Kubuntu but these fonts do not render in OO in Kubuntu. They appear in the drop-down font list in OO Writer but in text appear as open rectangles with no runes.
I'm not that familiar with how fonts work. Can anyone suggest what might be wrong?
