    Upgrading Amarok<<Solved>>

    Hey all,

Using the 6.06 lts release, straight clean install from cd, updated all the way no out of sort repos, everything upgraded except, amarok!  I added the repo for 1.4 and if i tried to upgrade in adept it said break install, so got rid of that repo and added the 1.4.1 repo and still cant upgrade from 1.3.9, in adept it just keeps saying break install, anyone else having these probs, or just me, and if so any one know what to do cause I am stumped?
    Thanks,
    Cheers!

    Re: Upgrading Amarok

Try removing Amarok 1.3.9 using adept, then use these repos, if you aren't already. And install the latest version.

    deb-src http://kubuntu.org/packages/amarok-latest dapper main

I also got it to work using the instructions from that link.

A word of warning though. If you have FLAC media, I would suggest not upgrading, because xine support for FLAC is broken in Amarok 1.4.1. I think that a current (but not yet available to Kubuntu) update/patch to libxine fixes this.

I've tried following those directions, but I always get the following message:

The following packages have been kept back:
              amarok amarok-engines amarok-xine

Did you remove the original Amarok from Kubuntu to do the upgrade?

I did not have to remove the existing install to upgrade.

@spiffytech: would you mind posting the contents of your /etc/apt/sources.list file? I'm suspecting it might be the source of your problems.

My sources.list file is attached to this post. Please removed the ".txt" from the file, it was neccessary to name it such to attach it to this post.

@jrsoit: I think your problem would be solved by enabling the dapper universe repository.

@spiffytech: I can't seem to find anything wrong with your sources.list. I'm not sure if this solution would work, but you can try it. Disable/comment out the following lines (put '#' at the start of each line)

deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ dapper-backports main restricted universe multiverse
                          deb-src http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ dapper-backports main restricted universe multiverse
                          and
                          deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu dapper-backports multiverse
                          deb-src http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu dapper-backports multiverse
                          Hope that helps.

Unfortunately, commenting out those lines didn't help. I commented them out, did "apt-get update", "apt-get upgrade" and am still told that the amarok packages are held back. Thanks for your help.

My memory might fail me, but I recall that amarok 1.4.1 depends on a few new packages, so 'apt-get upgrade' won't work (apt-get upgrade only upgrades existing packages, it won't install new packages)...try 'apt-get dist-upgrade' instead.
