    Application to monitor bandwidth usage?

    Hi guys,

I'm looking for an application to monitor my bandwidth usage. My setup is as follows:

Smoothwall 2.0 (running an ISDN 128K connection) hooked up to a router which allows my desktop PC and my laptop to connect to the net via the Smoothwall machine.

I want to install something on my desktop to monitor the internet activity. I installed gkrellm, but this monitors the connection on my eth01. This means that ANY activity on the eth01 (even copying files to and from my laptop) will cause the sent and received packets to increase.

Any good apps out there? I use Netlimiter on my Windows laptop, but unfortunately, this doesn't work through wine.

Not sure exactly what you're aiming for, but here are a few programs you might want to take a look at:

iptraf - curses based real time traffic monitoring
    tcpdump - cli packet capture
    ethereal - gui packet capture
ntop - web based traffic monitor

    HTH,

Thanks a lot.... i'll check them out

Essentially, what I am trying to see is how much data I download/upload over a period of time.
