KMail doesn't send

Hello,
I've got some troubles with kmail.

In short, it doesn't send messages via smtp, it even doesn't try.
I've just tried balsa with the same configuration, there it works flawless.

What I'm doing:
I've got a server running and tunneled port 25 from my laptop to the server.
telnet localhost 25 works, balsa works, kmail doesn't .. :-(

Anyone an idea ?

i don't know what is happening for sure. This is just a semi-educated guess (as i never use tunnels... i am behind multiple firewalls), but what if you tried it WITHOUT the tunnel?

Doesn't work without tunnel, too.
AFAIK, it also shouldn't be a difference to kmail, whether the mailserver is tunneled or local.

More interesting, "check what the server supports" ( or something similar, my ui is in German ) works and detects the correct setup of the mailserver.

It just seems to me at least my kmail doesn't like smtp.

seems odd, though, since that is what kmail is FOR... i use it all the time....
trying to think of anything that could be the problem...
maybe a non-standard smtp? doubt it but it could be the case.
about the only other thing i can think of is to try re-installing kmail...
