no sound after quake 3 install

ok I just installed (via wine) quake 3 and now my sound will not work system wide. anybody have any ideas. i searched the forums and found most sound issues are at os install. seeing that sound was working after install with no problems i figure this must be software related.

Im fairly new to linux so any ideas where to start looking to solve this problem would be very helpful.
