    busted consoles?

I'm having some issues one of which is that I can't ctrl+alt+Fx to any consoles, or rather when I do I just the screen goes blank. There is nothing there and its beyond me right now to fix.

I can ctrl+alt+f7 back to the gui.

Is this a normal function of kubuntu or is something wrong?

    Hi,

No, it's not really normal, sometimes people remove this feature themself to earn in speed... But if you didn't it shouldn't be like this. Can you see the boot process or not ? If yes, Ctrl+Alt+F1 is giving you a black screen also ?

    Cheers

I can see the boot process, but no shutdown messages. Once logging in ctrl+alt+F1, 2, 3 etc provide no consoles. I don't remember disabling all the consoles except for the gui and I thought they were default. I didn't purposely remove the console access.

        Hi,

I've found it in wiki :
Turn off unused consoles to save RAM
In the file /etc/inittab find following:
        1:2345:respawn:/sbin/getty 38400 tty1
        2:23:respawn:/sbin/getty 38400 tty2
        3:23:respawn:/sbin/getty 38400 tty3
        4:23:respawn:/sbin/getty 38400 tty4
        5:23:respawn:/sbin/getty 38400 tty5
        6:23:respawn:/sbin/getty 38400 tty6

So maybe you should check this file to see if it's like this or not... If not set it back like this.
Anyway, I've compiled kernel 2.6.17.3 and I can't see also my tty but I guess it's trouble with my compilation

        Hope this helps
