How to get MP3 support on PC WITHOUT internet?

Yesterday I've installed my brand new Kubuntu 6.06 from CD. And there's no support for MP3's. Also sound in movies is not played (since most of AVI's have MP3s inside). What do I need to download to enable it? Yes, I've read Amarok docs about MP3, but PC with fresh Kubuntu does not have any connection to internet. So what do I need to download and where and how to install all that?

P.S. I remember that Ubuntu 5.10 did not open .deb files until I've download something...

All the codecs and other required programs for an offline setup are available on the 'UbuntuPlus' thread in the ubuntuforums.org site.

Can the live CD use the Adept manager? If so just look for the package amaroK-arts, I also installed libarts1-mpeglib, although I don't know if that last one was any help. Got no probs with mp3's now.

Also a quick google search brought up this page with a download on the site.

AFAIK, all you need for mp3 playback is libxine-extracodecs. maybe you could download only that package from http://packages.ubuntu.com. Just check the dependencies listed on it's web page and see what other things you still need to download/install.

Can't see that one in Adept Manager (APT for short?), what repository is it in?

it's in the Dapper (not dapper-backports) multiverse repository. You have to add/enable it.

Ok Thanks, but it seems to function just fine with the aRts engine so I'll leave it for now. I will check out that repository though.
