    Media player plugin frustrations

I've tried diligently the last few days to get firefox to play Real and Window Media files but I just can't get it and it's frustrating the hell out of me.

I tried the Wiki directions. Installed Kmplayer then KMEncoder and the KMEncoder says mplayer is not installed. Liar!!

I tried installing just mplayer and KMEncoder. Same error

Tried mplayer with mplayerplug-in and plugger. No luck. The plugins are in firefox but nothing is working except for SOME Real files, but not RAM files.

This is what frustrates me about Linux. It just shouldn't be this difficult. I really really want Kubuntu to be my primary OS but I watch alot of media

Anyone have any ideas for me?

This is the error from kmencoder:
    Code:
    dpkg -i kmencoder_0.1.2-1_i386.deb

Someone must have had this issue. I just did a fresh install on my other computer and Realplayer is skipping there too

Yes, I have this problem, too. Real Player skips so much that it is unusable. It seems to be particularly bad with higher-bandwidth streams. But I know it is not a network issue because a Windows box sharing the same Internet connection has no problems.

Im new to Linux myself, but could your problems be an issue with your graphics card?

I do recall reading something regarding video playback, and how you need to use the manufactorers settings if at all possible as it can make even a super quick pc slow as a P2 in regard to video playback without them.

Just an idea as it seems your covering every normal angle.

Good thought, but it skips on many audio-only streams, too. I've uninstalled Real Player for now and I'm using the totem-xine-firefox-plugin Works much better.
