    missing the other xine codecs

here are the steps I did

I installed a server copy of kubuntu 5.10
    logged in as my user
    sudo passwd
    created a root account
    exit
    logged in as root
    added the universal res.
    installed mc
used mcedit to change the rest of the apt-get source file
    apt-get update
    apt-get dist-update (I'm not sure I if I installed that right)
    apt-get install kubuntu-desktop
    restarted and everything worked
opened up adept and xine and java where not in there

I'm tried right now so if I spelled something wrong I'm sorry.

can you guys tell me how to fix this. I used slackware, and suse, and red hat. This is my first debian distro, so I'm really confused.

    thanks in advance

    ~Andrew~

P.S. don't ask me how I remember everything, I'm not sure myself

Xine (libxine-extracodecs) and Java (Sun Java) is found in the multiverse repositories. You have to add it to your sources.list

Here are some instructions on what to do specifically (scroll down to the appropriate Kubuntu version instructions):
For restricted formats (where you will need libxine-extracodecs): https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RestrictedFormats
    For Java: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Java

Btw, I guess you're knowledgeable enough about how Ubuntu discourages enabling the root account. But just in case you need a reference: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RootSudo

I'm still use to the root account from slackware
      I almost never use it

      Thank you for helping

I believe I uncommented the multiverse repositories, and changed them to dapper, but it still isn't coming up

Could you post the contents of your sources.list? it might be a problem with some repositories.
