    Putty looks like crap

I'm trying to spiff up the look of Putty.

In PCLinuxOS it looks like this: ftp://oberon.gotdns.com/putpclos.jpg

In Kubuntu it looks like this: ftp://oberon.gotdns.com/putkub.jpg

Any ideas on how to spiff it up?  Thanks.

If all your apps look like that, change your "System Settings>Appearance" settings.

Are they the same version of PuTTY between each OS?

Isn't putty using GTK? Isn't there some dependancy related stuff there? Just guessing, sorry if its not helpful. Check GTK themes...?

Maybe I'm missing something but what's the problem, the larger fond in Kubuntu?
I've been using Putty for years and it always looked like this.
Anyway, you set it up and then forget it.

I think jjmckay may have given you the critical peice of advice. If Putty is a GTK app, it's look and feel in KDE is not controlled by "SYSTEM SETTINGS>Appearance>Style", but by "System Settings>Appearance>"GTK Styles and Fonts". Play around with the settings in there.

I played around with the GTK styles & fonts. No change. Have you tried?

                        Re: Putty looks like crap

                        Putty is using gtk1.x
so you need to install some gtk theme engines (whatever you like)
                        also install gtk-theme-switch

I am using thingeramik, it looks quite ok
                        sudo apt-get install gtk-theme-switch gtk-engines-thingeramik

                        run "gtk-theme-switch"
                        select "thingeramik"
