Kdar full backup to CD-R (do I really need to back up root?)

I found a great article about Kdar in Linux Journal (June 06) it describes Kdar as a backup program that will burn to CD-R's

My question is: which folders do I need to backup to save all my configs & new installs? (Root? "/")

I plan to use my Kubuntu CD to format & install & the Kdar backup Cd's to restore all of my settings & programs, including Wine & my win32 apps.
(Only if I really mess it up.... I just spent 2 weeks setting it up)

    Thanks, Mike

If you want to back up your settings and configurations, all you need to back up is /home/mike_m or if you have multiple users, then just /home
Linux is ready for the desktop--but whose desktop?<br />How to install software in Kubuntu

Actually, there are a great many settings specific to your hardware and to (K)Ubuntu in the /etc tree and the /usr tree. In general, though, when you need to restore those you're probably looking at a re-install anyway, so the only thing you need that's irreplacable is your /home tree.
