KDE Desktop Freezes on Right Click

I've got a new install of Kubuntu running on a laptop and when I right click on anything on the desktop, no menu comes up and the desktop freezes. All other windows are still fine, but only the desktop wallpaper will redraw itself. Then if I try to restart through the KDE menu, all I get is a garbled sceen and a keyboard that will no longer work on another TTY. This means that when this happens, to avoid having to kill the power, I have to open a terminal and do a shudown -r now.

I updated to 3.5.3, but now I'm thinking it may be an x.org thing? I dunno, I'm stumped. Any help is apreciated. Thanks!

Re: KDE Desktop Freezes on Right Click

      Hi.

I have the same problem with KDE 3.5.3 on Debian Unstable.

A way to trigger it is to change the virtual desktop, and then right-clicking a desktop icon.

      Any help on this?

      Regards.

Re: KDE Desktop Freezes on Right Click

Sorry, but my previous answer is not right. Sometimes the problem appears after switching virtual desktops, but not always.

I've found that kopete freezes along with the desktop. Killing kopete makes the desktop come to live. Could you try a 'pkill kopete' from a terminal window when your desktop freezes?

        Regards.
