Is it possible to import my email from Thunderbird and if so how do I do it?

Yes it seems possible, I just opened Kmail, and clicking on "File", then "Import Messages" will start a wizard with dropdown menu. In that dropdown menu, Thunderbird is listed. Since I haven't got Thunderbird messages I didn't go further, but it looks pretty straight forward. -

Worked like a charm just transferred them right in and worked without a glitch.
