    all sound system failed to initialize after a mass installation of packages

    I installed a big hunk of applications at one shot, nvu, gimp, azureus, skype, wengophone... after that i found kaffeine and amarok not working with error message:
    Code:
    failed to load player part
    all sound system cannot be initialized
    i restart the sound system, restart the computer, then uninstall all the apps i just installed, but the sound system still not working, can anyone help me?

    When I meet a situation like this with a major part of the OS dysfunctional, like sound, and no idea how it happened or how to fix, I back up all data and reinstall freshly. I call this "freshening up":-) It's sometimes the simplest solution. This way you can install apps individually and narrow down to the one causing the misery.

    Make sure to back up your data on two CDs in case one messes up. Don't forget to back up things easily forgotten like your emails, bookmarks and kwallet files. I don't remember how many times I've sent my bookmarks into the nirvana.
