Ive done wrong connecting speedtouch and me to internet

I used this to set up my Speedtouch in kubuntu.

I know it is in there now as i have found it installed.
The problem I think is in my ISP connection and what user name I use for tesco.
In windows I connect initially using "myname@adsl.tesco.net"/ "password" it comes up auto if I use the shortcut on the screen and it connects to the broadband.
For access to everything else I use "myname@ tesco.net"/"password".
In the routine of these set up instructions I am not certain which to use or where/ in the PAP/CHAP files etc.

I try to start the connection and get the box telling me it is trying to connect to tesco but nothing happens after.I think name/ passwords
are wrong and I am struggling to fix it. I think I should be able to access the files and change them, without doing the whole thing all over but what do I find and change and with what?
Ok I'm stupid but........ Once again I am struggling at the last part. Its because I'm new and learning.

I used a USB speedtouch modem under Fedora briefly(*) by using that same guide.
IIRC and from a quick glance at the guide your username and password are in a file called either /etc/ppp/chap-secrets or /etc/ppp/pap-secrets. Possible both of those exist but only one is used. So try look at and changing those.
They'll probably be chmoded so you can't read them as a regular user so you'll have to edit them as root. Try

$ sudo pico /etc/ppp/chap-secrets

or

$ kdesu kate /etc/ppp/chap-secrets


(*) Briefly because the modem was provided by Bulldog who failed to provide the 8Mbps service they sold us and who's customer service was virtually non-existant.

ta .I made them with Kate,i t's altering them tho'.I comeup with an "example "file somewhere that i want to alter.
