I've labeled this one both Kubuntu and Ubuntu because some of the problems are Kubuntu specific, but some of them are not. This is a fresh install on a new laptop.
1) In dselect, the full repository is no longer shown. When I run dselect, packages that I /know/ are there and available for download do not show up. One good example was Firefox. If you used dselect and did / to search for it, it is not listed. In fact, even though I have the full repository set enabled (universe/multiverse), there are only about 20 packages listed in dselect that are not installed. In Adept, everything shows up. I can also apt-get the packages do not show up in dselect. I have 'apt-get update'd many times, but no change. What gives?
2) Thunderbird has no icon on my system. Originally, I copied my .mozilla-thunderbird directory over from my old system, but I tried a fresh start just in case. Mozilla gets the >< icon, for "generic X windows" program. This is annoying if you're scanning your taskbar for something. This is running Kubuntu, but I imagine the icon is a problem on either platform.
3) On my system, Kubuntu 6.06's login box is all fouled up. If you fail to enter the correct password, the text for "Login failed" appears over the top of the border of the box. This has only gotten worse with the KDE 3.5.3 upgrade -- the textareas for login and password disappeared, so now misaligned oversized text appears next to "login" and "password", with no box around it.
Any hints/comments?
