Did I do something right or what?

I have an MSI NX 6600 video card in this computer. I recently downloaded the drivers (I think?) for it. I thought I did a good job but when I rebooted, There was no nvidia splash screen. Is this normal for Kubuntu? My only other linux experience was Ubuntu. There you had a splash screen if you did a proper download/install.
Also, I noticed the openGL screensavers quit working. The command to see if "nv" was changed to "nvidia" in the sources list includes "gedit." I kept getting an error message that stated " gedit command not found"
So, Did I do something right or what?
Oh, BTW, I'm a newbie to linux if you haven't figured that out yet
    Thanks for the help.

    Hi,

Gedit is not installed by default. In Kubuntu, use kate instead.

Yes, you should see the Nvidia splash screen.

Thanks for the reply. I'll go back and try to find what went wrong.

Just make sure that if you're editing something with root privileges that you use
        Code:
        kdesu kate
        instead of
        Code:
        sudo kate
Linux is ready for the desktop--but whose desktop?<br />How to install software in Kubuntu

          Asyiu,
I finally figured out that something was wrong with "sudo gedit..." at least for me.
The first line at Arnieboys site said that automatix worked with Ubuntu, Kubuntu, and Edubuntu. I did not know about "kdesu kate."
I wonder if this is why my download of Automatix is messed up. See my post at Arnieboys "How to install Automatix" post One hundred fifteen

          Thanx!
