amarok and streaming radio

so i recently wiped out and 'breezy' and installed 'dapper'. i must say, i'm lovin it!

i managed to manually get mp3, flash, and java going but now amarok is doing something really weird (breezy never did this to me so i'm suspecting it's the running engine -- xine)

i go to stream the "chillout" station from www.di.fm and i get this error:

Access was denied for the URL: [url]http://64.236.34.97:80/stream/1035[/url]
xine parameters: [url]http://64.236.34.97:80/stream/1035[/url]

does anyone have any ideas what this could be or should i just switch back to gstreamer's engine? oh and by the way, other stations (not all of them) will do this too.

I get a problem that may be related, when I listen to JPH!P Radio, it plays for about three minutes, and then nothing, it doesn't even try to reconnect, so I have to click STOP, and then PLAY to get the station again, under breezy with Amarok 1.3.8 it worked PERFECTLY, but then again, I was using gstreamer wich doesn't work with Amarok 1.4, anyone?

I've got the same problem with Radio Paradise (http://www.radioparadise.com).

I've done enough research to know it is the xine engine that is causing the problem. The same thing happens if you try to play the URL in kaffeine.

My laptop is running Amarok 1.4 with the xine engine under Kubuntu Breezy and it works perfectly, but I can't play streams right in Dapper.

If I find a solution, I'll post it...but nothing so far.

as much as i didn't want to...i had to install XMMS just to hear my streams again.

...I can verify that it still works though :P

I was having the same problem. I posted another thread at http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...d.php?t=459432. There's also a bug report. It's Bug #50734.

The problem was with xine. All I did was recompile xine and everything worked after that. First though I needed the alsa headers so I could compile xine with alsa support. The headers were in a package name libasound2-dev. Aftewards I did "./configure --prefix=/usr", "make", "sudo make install" and xine compiled and installed with no problems.

Get yourself on a console and in your ~

apt-get source libxine1c2

cd xine*

./debain/rules

make

sudo make install

I got my streams going again just by installing the package, libxine-extracodecs.
