They're both in 6.06 LTS. You'll need to enable 'universe' for knode.

Ha! I've just sorted it. this was a clean install, \not an upgrade and EVERY SINGLE REPOSITORY in sources.list was DISABLED!

WTF is THAT all about? WHY?

I think the installer checks to see if it can reach each repository during installation, and comments it out if not, so if you were not on the net during install you get that.
