KDE 3.5.3 Printer configuration does not work.

Hi I am trying to configure my HP PSC 2110 printer, which is shared through my SMB network with a windows XP computer.

The problem is that the Kubuntu printer configuration wizard exits with the following error message.

When I try to add the printer, the KDE add printer wizard, the following error happens.

The requested driver could not be loaded.
The foomatic driver [HPPSC 2110,hpijs] could not be created. This driver may not exist, or you do not have sufficient permissions.

Entering cups through the web interface http://localhost/:631 does not help either. It asks for a root authentication, which is not possibible with kubuntu. Starting kdesu kprinter shows that the cups server is authenticated with root and the password field is blan. To allow anonymus cups access does not work either.

    This is not going well.

      Update with possible solution

I did a reinstall of the kdeprinter package and the problem seems to be solved.

tijssenn@tijssenn-desktop:~$ sudo apt-get install --reinstall kdeprint

The network printer can be added as well, and it is now functional.

I have one question remaining. The driver selection windows shows two entries for the same model printer.

This may be confusing, since the printer selection option shows two options.

The HPPSC 2110 option gives the error message listed in my first post.
The PHPSC 2210 hpijs option installs correctly.

This shoud be a bug in the configuration.

          Nice one.

The re-install worked a treat for me too. I still couldn't scan for the printer but when I put in the information it asked for by hand I got a test print out first time.

          Many thanks

There is a bug logged about this

            https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu...int/+bug/42965

There people reccomend running "sudo foomatic-cleanupdrivers".
