I have a Canon MV600 Camcorder (yes I now know Canon is not very Linux-Friendly) which I am trying to connect via firewire. Works in XP with Windows movie maker but I want to burn to DVD/VCD and that app seems to insist on saving in WMV format whereas I want to do it with MPEGs.
In kubuntu on connection the camera is not detected by the desktop i.e there is no icon or dialog box. However, the OS knows it is there as using kdesu dvgrab in a terminal I get the message that capture has started and it is clear that the camera is playing the film. However, I have no visuals, and am not given the opportunity to say where I want the data saving, or any settings at all. What I could do with therefore is a front-end for dvgrab. Does anyone know of one or whether there is an alternative? I have just checked on the internet and believe I am definitely on the right lines, but everything seems to be somewhat convaluted command line stuff.
