Why are all existing documents opened in "read only". I have Open Office at work on an xp machine and home on Kubuntu dapper, the dapper version always opens everything existing as a "read only" file un editable. How does one turn this off or modify it?

Re: Open Office writer
This might be because you don't have write access/permission to the files that you want to edit. This is usually the case when the files are either located on a separate partition which only root has read/write access to, or if the files are copied from a CD, where there is no write permission.
Double check the files to see if you have write permission. If not, try either changing the permissions or changing the owner of the file.
