Firefox and Thunderbird eating up resources

    Dear all !

Maybe this is a FAQ already, I found both FF and TH are hungry beast, either of them sitting idle for few hours will eating up all my 256M memory and 700M swap, the CPU utilization goes sky rocket high while the hard drive is swapping hard, this freez my computer. If I don't run any of them there will be no problem over night, almost no swap needed, any clue ?

Have you tried uninstalling them and reinstalling? They shouldn't be so resource hungry. What versions of both are you using?

I apt-get install them and keep updating everyday, the problem is even I close them down the swap does not release, but Opera and Konqueror does not have the same problem.

I keep apt-get update/upgrade everyday, and the current patches seem to have fixed the problem, I keep FF and TB running overnight and the swap stay low.
