    For Breezy you should have either xlibs 6.8.2-77 or 6.8.2-77.1 I'm not sure about Dapper version, but I'm sure it's there. Try "sudo apt-get install xlibs". Hopefully, it will tell you it's already installed.

      There isn't 'xlibs' available for dapper...the problem seems to be that there currently isn't a dapper version of opera available (I'd assume one comes out some time after the release of dapper)

      In the meantime, one way to satisfy the dependency is to install breezy's 'xlibs' (from the breezy repos).

            Re: Xlib?

            I installed the Ubuntu 6.06 deb Opera9 and Java applets are broken (using the sun-Java 1.5.0.06 at least) !

            So the working solution for me was to install Opera 8.54 from a tarball. Then it doesn't complain about xlib6g and Java applets now work.

              Read my these two posts I created to address installing Opera 9 and enabling Java in it.

                Re: Xlib?

                Nice guide and I really appreciate the well-written info but.... when using those command-line options, java applets still didn't work on Opera 9. I then tested the same sites with Firefox and they worked so it's definitely a problem with Opera 9's communication with Java.

                Note: To even get Java working at all in Firefox I had to install the package sun-java5-plugin (using Adept Manager). I had thought this would have helped Opera 9, but it didn't.

                Anyway, I reinstalled Opera 8.54 from the .tar.gz from their site and Java applets work flawlessly again. So Opera 9's not ready for prime time.

                  Java didn't work for you in Opera 9 by using the debug commands?  Hmmmmmmmmm......

                    Re: Xlib?

                    No, but I only tested two Java applets.

                    I also looked at the bash console debug messages and saw several java errors.
                    The main error was something like;

                    "no mimetypes for /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/libjavaplugin.so"

                    so I gave up.

                    Running Opera 8.54 with

                    # opera --debugplugin --debugjava

                    works and shows good output for java;

                    opera: [plugin probing] /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/libjavaplugin.so

                      That's really strange. Have you installed the latest version of Java? I think it's 1.5.0_07 (5.0 Update 7).

                        Re: Xlib?

                        I tested sun-java5-jre 1.5.0-06-1 (installed by Adept) with both ver of Opera.

                        Updated packages for Java are not available using the std repositories (universe multiverse).
