Please excuse me this is little off, I don't want to join another forum just for one question so I ask here, how do I get rid of the 'big mac' type 'm' on the received message on the chat window ?

Err...not quite sure of what you mean...perhaps a screenshot would help.

Just guessing...is the person you're talking to using such an image as his/her avatar picture?
If so...you can use a theme that does not show avatar pictures (in Kopete settings)...or you can edit that contact to not have an avatar (right-click on contact>properties)

No, some of the received character on the chat window changed to graphics, 'M' changed to big mac and '1' changed to a cat, this is when doing MSN, I used the default no plugin installed.

Ah...your friend is probably sending smileys and you're accepting them...
1. go to Settings>Accounts, choose your msn account and click edit
2. Under MSN Settings tab there is an option to load external smileys...uncheck it.
