Synaptic and Adept not working

Hi I'm having trouble with both Synaptic and Adept.

When i try to run adept, after i get the prompt for password and I put in the password i get this error.

So when i try to get synaptic to run I get this error

Hello sirdj,

sorry, cannot see the terminal error. but. try the sudo apt-get update from a terminal, see what it tells you.


also,

you could try
sudo synaptic and see if the GUI for this program starts........

To run commands from the terminal become root.

I just usually sign in under "recovery mode" and then startx if I wish to remain root because of terminal work.
