    MP3's not playing

Using Flight 5. I can't seem to get any MP3 files to play at all. I've tried using JuK, Amarok, and Kaffeine, and none of them work; they all skip through the file completely.

I've got Akode, Akode-mpeg, and the gstreamer-mad packages all installed; what am I missing? I don't get any error messages with any of the player software, so I am having a hard time tracking anything down. The sound system does seem to be working, because I can play other types of sound files. Adept shows that aRts is installed, though when I try to restart it with $ sudo /etc/init.d/artsd restart, it tells me that there is no such service.

I had no problems with MP3's under Breezy.

Aren't the w32codecs also required for playing mp3's? or are they only for propriety videos?

When all else fails, xmms usually works. You'll have to install it along with the plugin for mp3s.

note for KDE users: Your specific configuration may require you to install the akode-mpeg package to enable mp3 playback. In Dapper, amarok needs libxine-extracodecs for mp3 support.

Hey, Kubicle. Thanks for pointing me at that site. Once I'd realized I'd forgotten to enable the multiverse repositories, everything worked out fine, and now I can play MP3's just fine.
