kcontrol display module can't not be loaded

I was trying to change display settings ..however the display module can not be loaded..

    I got following message .......

The module Display could not be loaded
    Possible reasons

-an error occurred during your last KDE upgrade leaving an orphaned control module
-You have old third party modules lying around
    ....................

Same problem, when I first installed flight 4, I could change the resolution but after I did the upgrade with Adept, The screen resolution is 640x480 and I cannot change it. I don´t know for sure what I upgraded but I chose full upgrade with official repositories.

      Curtis:
Notice the "Blame the Victim" tone of the error message. That said, though, have you upgraded KDE lately? Do you have any third party modules lying around? Do they mean third party Kcontrol modules or video card driver modules like the ones supplied by Nvidia and ATI?

That said, though, how did you try to start the display module, from System Settings on the Kmenu, from the command line, or from Kcontrol? Try starting it a different way..

mambo: try "sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg" from a real (Ctl-Alt-F?) console login.

askrieger, I have upgrade several time this week. I can't remember when is the last time I change my display setting, but I guess it is more than 2 weeks..

Yes, go > menu > system setting > display to change my display setting..
since last time I changed my setting display, after that I didn't install any third party driver....actually my display card doesn't really has a driver...

thx I will try that command ......and let you guys know how it goes.

Re: kcontrol display module can't not be loaded

Can you be more specific about what doesn't work when you tried dpkg-reconfigure? Did it crash without doing anything? If so, what was the error message? Did it ask you a series of questions and stop in the middle? What was the last question it asked before it stopped? Did it finish the questions and then crash when it tried to change your xorg.conf file? No one can help without knowing what happened.

Happens here too. Both on a brand-new installation of Kubunto 6.04 Flight 4 and the same error message still occurs after bringing all K-related things uptodate. "Display Module cannot be loaded" I don't have any orphaned libs lying around........

                It's a real bug.

                Greetings. Ko

Re: kcontrol display module can't not be loaded

I was having the same problem, but after updating kde-guidance and kcontrol tonight, the problem is now solved in that the display module runs.

However if I enter administrator mode, the screen goes blank and I cannot kill the X server except by switching the machine off.

If this doesn't work for you, please run from a konsole prompt, "systemsettings" and then select the display option from the screen. This will show the error output from kcontrol display in the konsole, so at least you can post that data or report a bug via launchpad. Assuming X does not hang!

Re: kcontrol display module can't not be loaded

I can now access Display settings via System Settings too, but my screen resolution is listed as 640 by 480, which I don't think is correct because Dapper is installed on my 15.4in widescreen laptop, and the icons, fonts, and windows look to be of the appropriate sizes. WinXP's Display settings in Control Panel reports my resolution as 1280 by 800.
