    aiff files

I transferred an .aiff file from my wife's Mac. I can't seem to find any program that will play it or convert it to something else.

I've tried a number of different programs and most won't even open the file. Any suggestion on what program I can use to hear an .aiff file?

    Re: aiff files

    Have you tried Audacity ?

    Audacity
Audacity is a multi-track audio editor for Linux/Unix, MacOS and Windows.
Package: audacity (1.2.4b-2ubuntu2.1). It is in the dapper-updates.

I tried with Audacity 1.3.4 (Kubuntu Gutsy) and it plays and converts .aiffs. aiff is from http://simplythebest.net/sounds/othe...mals_aiff.html

    Sox

SoX is a command line utility that can convert various formats of computer
audio files in to other formats. It can also apply various effects to these
sound files during the conversion. As an added bonus, SoX can play and record
audio files on several unix-style platforms.

    Code:

Thanks for the suggestions. I already was an Audacity user. I don't know why but I didn't even think to try it. It played and converted the file.

      I'll look at sox later.

      Thanks again for the information.

        Re: aiff files

audacity is a sound editing program, for a conversion program, i recommend soundkonverter.
i know audacity would work, but that is kind of overkill just to convert something.
