    KDE + Xgl + compiz

    Hi all,
I've posted this on ubuntu forums but with no answer... hope to find it some here... so, is there any way to start Xgl as X server on kdm? I've modified the kdmrc file as suggested in the ubuntuforums like this:

    Code:
ServerCmd=Xgl -kb -br -accel glx:pbuffer -accel xv:fbo -fullscreen
but when I do the logon from the splash screen, instead to load kde splash procedure the screen seems to think a while (black screen with X mouse loader) then step back to the login splash screen user+pass

Re: KDE + Xgl + compiz

    Yup, same problem here
    My .xsession-errors says this:
Xsession: X session started for etc etc
Xlib:  extension "XFree86-VidModeExtension" missing on display ":0.0".
    Traceback (most recent call last):
      File "/usr/bin/displayconfig-restore", line 237, in ?
        main()
File "/usr/bin/displayconfig-restore", line 208, in main
        hdisplay = mode_line[1]
    TypeError: unsubscriptable object
So it seems to start a session after I log in. Problem is, the XFree86-VidModeExtension is loaded by the "extmod" module in Xorg, and I have in my config that it should be loaded.
If I try to load Xgl without kdm it runs without any trouble...

Re: KDE + Xgl + compiz

I have asked for others to help create a Xgl / Compiz on KDE howto at the ubuntuforums.

If you want this howto, please voice your desire here:

        http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=147044

There are people who have Xgl and Compiz running with KDE, using GDM and gnome-window-decorator. So, we know it is possible.

            Thank you!

i'll try it later when im home(i dont want to #&%$ up my kubuntu dapper installation at school )

(everybody here has his own sata drive in a harddisk bracket)

            8)

maybe this how-to could be in the kubuntu.org wiki
(the how-to there is just the same as on ubuntu.com wiki )

Re: KDE + Xgl + compiz

              holy @#$%ing %^*$ !!!!!

              OMG!!! It works!!!!
I was beginning to wonder if it all was a dream lol

I did have one problem, though, in that I could not seem to get the gnome-window-decorator to give me any titlebars unless I removed "gconf" from the script in ~/.kde/Autostart, but it sure works well otherwise

gconf and gconf-editor should't be necessary to run compiz, but it does allow for easier configuration of it, as well as other Gnome apps you may be using

@Dirk, if you have an account at ubuntuforums.org, I'd suggest you ask there. The author of the thread wants to have a nice consolidated thread where we KDE users can go for any questions on the topic. Also, you may have a better chance of getting a response there.

I also got it to work! I'm in love!
Someone give me the name of a nice app which can record video of my desktop, and I'll make one and post it.

                            Istanbul will do the trick

I would use it, but now I seem to be having the same menu-less windows as Dirk
