    Firefox Locking Up

    Hi, All,
My OS is Kubuntu 6.06. I'm having a bit of a problem with Firefox; with many of the webpages I visit, Firefox locks up loading the page. I'm using Firefox 1.5.0.13pre. Synaptic is not showing any updates or upgrades available. Has anyone else had this problem? Any suggestions?

    Thanks,

    Steve

    Re: Firefox Locking Up

Ok, I think I fixed this problem. Apparently, it was being caused by the java plugin for mozilla/firefox (j2re1.4-mozilla-plugin). I used synaptic to remove the plugin, and I have been surfing around for a little while now. So far, no lockups. I'll test it for a couple days, then report back.

Well, ok, that didn't quite fix it either.... It was still locking up on a few pages. So, following the tutorial I found here: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/FirefoxNewVersion , I upgraded to Firefox2. The upgrade was easy, and so far, so good. Now, if I can only get the video in the news pages to work, I'd be right!

I'll be very interested to hear how well it works -- others are having issues with Firefox:

So far, it's working out very well! At one time, I had 10 tabs open, and Firefox2 barely slowed down. It hasn't locked up once since the install this morning. In addition, I can now watch videos on youtube, whereas I couldn't on 1.5. Videos on the news sites still don't work... At this point, though, I have not installed any additional plugins or anything; I'm just working with Ff2 as it was installed. BTW - I'm still running KDE 3.5.2; I haven't taken the plunge with upgrading to 4 yet.

            Re: Firefox Locking Up

Well, after using Firefox2 almost constantly since I installed it yesterday, I can honestly say that it's much better than the 1.5 that comes with Ubuntu! In an attempt to try to lock it up, I had so much going that I almost locked up the computer, but I have NOT been able to lock up Firefox2. I've gone to every one of the pages that locked up 1.5 and, although they slowed down things a bit, they did not lock up 2. Some things work right out of the box (I can now watch google and youtube videos with no problems). A couple niggles, but that's about all they are: when downloading something, the progress bar in the download box did not show up. The numbers were there, however, so I could still tell where the download was at any given time. Also, I still cannot get video feeds from the news pages to play.
