    Video Camera and IEEE1394 card

    I have a video camera, a Canon MV700i, and I want to be able to upload the video onto my PC and then burn it onto DVDs.

    The camera has an IEEE 1394 connector and so I bought a card which I have inserted into my motherboard.

    I can't seem to get Kubuntu to recognise the card, which means when I plug the video camera into the card nothing happens (as opposed to connecting a USB device like a Digital Camera or MP3 player, which Kubuntu immediately recognises).

    Help?

    See if you have the coriander package installed:
    control IEEE1394 digital camera
    Coriander is a GUI that lets you control all the features of an IEEE-1394 Digital Camera complying with the DC Specifications v1.04 or later (see http://www.1394ta.org).
    It available in Adept Manager via the Universe repositories.
    Windows no longer obstructs my view.

      Coriander wasn't installed so I just did it via adept.

      Ran it via ALT-F2 kdesu coriander

      Basically said a) The card isn't installed, or b) it has to have ieee1394, ohci1394, raw1394 and video1394 installed, or c) Read/write permissions on devices dev/raw1394 and/or dev/video1394 need to be changed.

      All I can say is a) The card is installed, b) Huh? and c) dev/raw1394 and dev/video1394 don't exist.

      Is there a command I can type in console that will indicate all the PCI cards I have installed? This should be able to determine whether Kubuntu is actually recognising the card.

      The card itself may need to be "recognised" somehow before I can do anything else. Is there some way to "start it up"?

                I see it installed correctly. I am having the same issue too but have not had time to dwell on it yet. I am sure it works perfectly though.

                  Try modprobe ieee1394 or modprobe ohci1394 or both to load the driver module for the card.
