amarok + mp3?

i just installed kubuntu a couple of months ago, i havent actually gotten time to play with it but i tried to play an mp3 file and i cant. i click the file and amarok acts like it has played the filed but it lasts like half a second and the playback finishes. what can i do, i have tried donwloading updates with adept.
ps. i dont know how to check the version of kubuntu that im running. help please

You are going to need some additional packages installed in order to play mp3 files. Review the following link for information:
